Pugh’s Flowers was started in 1976 by Bill Pugh and his partner. Over the past 40 years, Pugh’s Flowers has grown into one of the premier flower shops in the country. The flower shop is currently owned and operated by Tim, Michael and Mark. Bill Pugh’s three sons. We operate three retail flower shops in Memphis, and another in Southaven, Mississippi. Along with our floral design business, the brothers also operate Pugh’s Earthworks, Rosie’s Pest Control and a new business that will be opening soon, called Pugh’s Lawn.

Celebrating Green Plants on Houseplant Appreciation Day on January 10th
Here in Memphis, we love our green plants and are excited to celebrate Houseplant Appreciation Day today! On January 10th every year, the green plant is celebrate in all of its glory, including blooming plants like orchids and violets as well as other green plants that offer a range of color and texture to their leaves. In honor of houseplants, we have put together some highlights from our Plant Care guide located on our website. Here are some of the various types of houseplants you may see or have along with some tips on ensuring they have a long and happy life in your home or office: African violets provide a beautiful bloom of purple flowers. As a houseplant, they prefer no direct sunlight and moist soil with good drainage. They like moderately warm temperatures and prefer fertilizer made specifically for them. Azaleas like diffused light and cooler temperatures as both conditions help them keep their blooms for a longer period of time. Direct sunlight will burn their foliage and encourage disease so give them the shade they enjoy. Begonia also like diffused light without having direct sun. They like moderately moist soil and temperatures. An all-purpose fertilizer will keep them happy. They require trimming to maintain a compact look. Peace lilies work well in low light, providing many blooms throughout the year. Keep soil moist along with moderate temperatures and a regular fertilizing schedule using general green plant fertilizer mixed with some organic matter. Green foliage plants are a broad category of houseplant and include dracaena, rubber plants, ficus, pothos and more. They like bright indirect light, moderate moisture, and good drainage. Celebrate Elvis Presley’s Birthday
With Graceland just down the street from one of our Memphis flower shops, Elvis Presley seems to always be on our minds. However, he is never more so on our minds than on January 8th because that’s his birthday. Many of Elvis Presley’s fans come to visit Graceland on this day so it gave us the idea to come up with a special flower arrangement dedicated to the King. The aptly named flower arrangement dedicated to Elvis is called “Love Me Tender.” It’s a stunning floral arrangement of roses and lilies that comes in two color choices. You can opt for the red design that comes with six red roses and white. lilies in a glass vase. Seasonal Poinsettias and How to Care for Them
The poinsettia plant is one of the most beautiful symbols of the Christmas holiday season. With bright red or sterling white hues, these flowering plants provide a cheerful message that is great for decorating your home or office as well as giving as a special gift. Thanksgiving Events in Memphis
While the center of Thanksgiving is typically a delicious feast with friends and family followed by a little football or a trip to the movies or strategic planning for those holiday shopping days, there are other events in Memphis that you may also want to put on your list. Zoo Lights opens on Thanksgiving from 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Prices are $7-$9 plus extra charges for ice skating and Ferris Wheel, all ages/kid-friendly. The Zoo is closed during the day on Thanksgiving but will open that night. The Zoo and Zoo Lights are open on Friday and Saturday. Starry Nights at Shelby Farms is open nightly, including Thanksgiving, from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. (and on weekends until 10 p.m.). It costs $20 per car (a little bit more for vans and buses) and $3-$5 for other activities, including a petting zoo, camel rides, and s’mores roasting. The Turkey Trot 4 Miler benefiting the March of Dimes is on at the Botanic Gardens on Thanksgiving Day and starts at 9 a.m. It’s a fun event for the whole family and proceeds go to a worthy cause. If you want to volunteer and feed the homeless, many shelters around Memphis are looking for extra hands to help out this year. The day after Thanksgiving is pretty special, too, in Memphis. There is the Peabody Christmas Tree Lighting in the Peabody Hotel Lobby on Friday, November 25th. The event is free and is open from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. There are choirs all day, and Santa arrives right after the 5 p.m. Duck March to turn on the tree.
